How to Handle Negative Self-Talk (VIDEO)

Blog Everything Else July 9, 2013

We all have this running dialog in our heads – this constant stream of thoughts, and too often – this voice in our heads is talking to us from a place of fear.  It’s telling us we can’t – or we shouldn’t.

I recently gave a talk on How to Get Out of Your Own Way – and – spoiler alert! – it really just boils down to mastering the art of not giving into and believing the negative self-talk in your head.

Easier said than done, right?

In this 2 part video series, I share with you a simple visualization tool you can use to get out of your own way, negative self-talk and all.

(You’ll also hear a little bit of my story, and my own challenges with limiting beliefs and negative self-talk.  As well as why I named my “monkey” Hermes 😉 )

After you watch, I’d love to know: have you ever let negative self-talk stop you from doing what you want to do?  What did you do to overcome it?  Please join in the discussion down in the Comments.

What a coincidence! I just posted on my blog today about the exact same subject.

Here is my “stop being a bitch” technique that I stumbled upon accidentally a few months ago, and has helped me dramatically reduce my negative self-talk.

I imagined a mother being critical to a baby that at 14 months hasn’t walked yet. I imagined the mother calling the baby a disappointment while comparing it to other babies that have already walked.

    Cruel, huh?

Yet, we do this with ourselves all the time!

Well, with that analogy, I could clearly feel in my bones how cruel we are sometimes to ourselves. And that did it for me: I no longer over-criticize myself.

Btw, here is the post where I detail this – http://tips.fitnessreloaded.com/stop-being-a-bitch/
