Change Your Words, Change Your Life

Blog Everything Else September 21, 2014

Sometimes all it takes to change our perspective is to change one word.

Before a big talk, switching out nervous for excited.

It completely changes the energy – allows me to maintain a sense of peace and calm, while feeling energized and inspired.

Stacy speaking 2I’m mindful of the language I use with the little man too.  Instead of saying, “You scared me” – I say “You startled me” – it expands his vocabulary, and avoids suggesting there should be fear associated with the experience of being startled.

Don’t get me wrong; there may still be (an experience of fear upon being startled).  But not because I’m suggesting the two are part and parcel.

I once had a client tell me he was lazy.

I suggested that self-identifying with that word would continue to make it so.

That came as quite a revelation.

Language has so much power.  The words we use are so important.

I keep a list on the board above my desk of some of my favorite feeling words, and tonight I feel like sharing them with you.
